THE TAP - Come, All Ye Incompetent

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will you please leave?
A: Sorry, not for a while.

Q: How often do you cry yourself to sleep?
A: Let’s stay on topic.

Q: Fine, when did you start?
A: This answer is way more complicated than it should be but buckle up. I started streaming on a personal account on September 15th, 2015. I played Super Mario Maker and was completely blown away by the response and interaction that the game fostered. A few months later, after various different attempts to break away from and still incorporate Mario Maker, I rebranded the channel under a new name TheTapStream. I haven’t missed a week since.

Q: Can I see your personal profile?
A: If you can find it. It’s where I do a lot of my test streams.

Q: Why TheTapStream?
A: When I was brainstorming names I actually wanted to call it Press Play. That was taken so I started to think about what you do when you actually press play. You tap the screen. Thus, TheTap. However, THAT was taken too so I got tired and threw stream at the end. It’s worked out so far.

Q: What’s your actual name?
A: Trey. Call me Trey, Tap, Tapstream, Tappy, Tappers, Tapbert, whatever you prefer.

Q: Where are you from?
A: Texas. That’s about as specific as I get.
Q: How old are you?
A: 28. (Let’s play a game. Does Trey update this?)

Q: What do you do for a living?
A: I work in the family lawn service.

Q: How do I stream?
A: Good question. A lot of what I learned I learned via Youtube videos. There’s something to be said about taking the time to learn the fundamentals on how to stream. You are your best resource when it comes to learning the basics, that way you’re more adept at fixing problems as they happen live. With that out of the way I want to leave this parting advice. If you’re already stressing about the stream you’re thinking about it too hard. At worst, you’re going to be doing the thing you already do, gaming. Streaming brings the potential to build a community around that shared love and it only grows when you focus on being you. There are a million people streaming themselves playing video games, but there’s only one you. Be you. Be Authentic. Have fun.

Q: What equipment do you use?
A: Click this link yo!

Q: What games do you stream?
A: Everything under the sun. Steam, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and more. Yeah, I make terrible financial decisions but I play a lot of great games.

Q: What are your favorite games?
A: Super Mario (any), Guacamelee, Mass Effect, Halo, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Donkey Kong, and The Lion King on the Sega Genesis. Games along this vein are generally my go to but I’m open to try any game.

Q: Can I play with you?
A: There’s a community night the last Wednesday of every month were we decide on a multiplayer game to play together. As far as the regular streams go, I play those solo.

Q: What’s been the highlight of your day?
A: You.
